What bugs me is that people get upset over him getting upset, though. I mean, fuckit, if I was nominated for the greatest accolade in my profession and was just snubbed, I would be pissed off and I would feel like I was being jerked around. It’s like he shouldn’t be allowed to be upset? I think he’s handled it fine, IMHO. Considering what he must’ve bottled up and how much restraint he might have exercised before posting those tweets, because he could’ve *really* exploded. I know I probably wouldn’t have been able to control myself in that situation, so I just read his tweets as “yep, understandably disappointed, but being a good sport about it”. He is human and he is allowed to be pissed off and to take things personally. Especially when something as big as his life’s work and his career is concerned. It is kind of a big deal.

But then again, this is probably just me being Finnish, and therefore defensive about someone being honest rather than trying to live up to some “must always smile and pretend to be happy” bullshit. Yeah, yeah, we bottle shit up and can get socially very oppressive, but I’ve just grown up in a non-arselicking culture where you aren’t forced to smile or fake happiness unless you really want to. So it always bugs me whenever I sense people trying to force others into faking it, into pretending everything is okay when they might not be feeling okay.

People get disappointed and they are allowed to do so, and it’s always so hurtful when honest people like John get shit for being honest and not hiding that part of themselves. I don’t genuinely think he’s a nasty person, unlike some nutters on Twitter did when calling his face an evil nasty psycho face or something. When he was applauding Dominic, he just looked resigned to me, even vulnerable as he was looking for comfort from his wife. The way some people have painted it makes it seem like he went up on that stage and stabbed Dominic thirteen times after setting him on fire or something. I just find it truly shocking, the levels of hostility people read into his perfectly normal “ah, bollocks” expression. o_O

In summary, haters can fuck off, John is human, he’s allowed to be disappointed. Let’s give the poor guy a hug. And ALL THE FUCKING AWARDS.
